Police seek man who robbed gas station at knifepoint

RENSSELAER, Ind. (WLFI) – The Rensselaer Police Department is looking for a man they say robbed a gas station at knifepoint.

Police received a call of a possible armed robbery at the Raceway Gas Station, 1020 N. McKinley Ave., in Rensselaer on Tuesday around 10:07 p.m. Officers said when they arrived on scene they found the clerk in restraints.

According to the police report, a white male entered the store from the north side of the building. After getting a drink from the cooler, he then brandished a knife and restrained the clerk. Officers said the store clerk was assaulted when placed in restraints, but refused medical treatment.

The individual fled the store on foot with an unknown amount of cash.

Police said the person of interest is described as a white male in his late 20s to early 30s. He is approximately 5-feet-9-inches tall, 180 pounds, with shaggy hair and a beard. He was last seen wearing a hooded sweatshirt, grey jacket, blue jeans and a white ball cap, possibly with a Pacer’s logo.

Rensselaer Police said officers checked the surrounding area for a person matching the description, but have yet to identify or locate the individual at this time.
