INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – It was a day of fun at the University of Indianapolis Saturday as more than 350 athletes took to the court for the 2014 Special Olympics Indiana State Youth Basketball Tournament.
It’s the fifth year The Univeristy of Indianapolis Kinesiology students have partnered with Special Olympics Indiana to host the statewide tourney.
50 teams competed in junior and senior divisions. In between games, participants get to mingle with students and athletes.
“It’s a day for our college students to interact with the intellectually disabled population and break down those stereotypes – for them to have fun and for the athletes just to come and do things besides just play basketball,” Assistant Professor or Kinesiology Jennifer Vansickle told 24-Hour News 8.
The tournament was held at the University of Indianapolis’ fitness center.
