Crews battle fire at former hotel on city’s south side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Fire officials are investigating after a fire started on the city’s south side Monday night.

Firefighters responded to the vacant building in the 500 block of East Thompson Road around 8:15 p.m. Fire officials say the fire was in a former Ramada Inn. The building was vacant.

Firefighters say there was heavy fire when they arrived on scene. Crews were able to bring the flames under control in 30 minutes.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damages are estimated at $50,000. No injuries were reported.

Fire officials say there was damage on the inside of the building caused by vandalism. According to IFD, it appears metals and other materials that could be sold were taken. There was also graffiti.
