INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police say a man is dead and another person was badly hurt following a crash early Monday.
Around 1 a.m. police say they saw a car speeding westbound down Michigan Street without headlights on.
According to officers, the driver swerved to miss the bridge supports to a railroad overpass and over-corrected, hitting a light pole.
Police say the male driver died at the scene. He has been identified as 24-year-old Carlos Guevara. The Marion County Coroner’s Office determined his cause of death as multiple blunt-force injuries.
A male passenger was taken to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital. He remained in critical condition Monday evening, police say.
The impact of the crash severed the utility pole in half. IPL crews were called to the scene.
