One person killed, one badly hurt in east side crash

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police say a man is dead and another person was badly hurt following a crash early Monday.

Around 1 a.m. police say they saw a car speeding westbound down Michigan Street without headlights on.

According to officers, the driver swerved to miss the bridge supports to a railroad overpass and over-corrected, hitting a light pole.

Police say the male driver died at the scene. He has been identified as 24-year-old Carlos Guevara. The Marion County Coroner’s Office determined his cause of death as multiple blunt-force injuries.

A male passenger was taken to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital. He remained in critical condition Monday evening, police say.

The impact of the crash severed the utility pole in half.  IPL crews were called to the scene. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
