INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – It was a celebration of food on Tuesday at the Indiana Statehouse.

Lieutenant Governor Sue Ellspermann and the State’s Agriculture Director helped kick off the Statehouse Market. Every Thursday through the summer, local food trucks will set up shop to sell lunch outside the government center.

On Tuesday, lawmakers and others got a little taste of what they can expect starting this week.

“Celebrating food of all types is just the coolest thing,” said Ted McKinney, Indiana State Department of Agriculture Director. “We at the Department of Agriculture hope that all of you are helping us set an example that we’re going to and we do embrace all foods. We know there is a local food movement. It’s terrific. It may or may not be organic or natural, that’s terrific.”

Tuesday is National Ag Day. Agriculture is a $16 billion industry in Indiana and it employs half a million Hoosiers each year.
