INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating after the body of a 21-year-old woman was found in a basement Friday.
According to the police report, the victim is 21-year-old Shannon Kleeman. Officials say they’re investigating her death as a homicide.
Police say Kleeman’s sister was looking for her and found her deceased in the basement of a home in the 600 block of North Linwood Ave. Detectives said they believe that home is her stepmother’s.
Officers were called to the scene and found gunshot wounds on the body. However, an exact cause of death has not yet been determined.
Neighbors said they heard Kleeman’s sister screaming outside the home Friday afternoon and ran over to see what was wrong.
Treva Bryant, who lives nearby, said Kleeman’s sister had asked her to go into the basement as well.
“I’m still trying to take in what they did to her. I can’t get that image out of my mind,” Bryant said. “It’s just hard to contemplate that someone would do that. She was a child.”
“Someone hurt that child very badly and they need to pay. Whoever did that doesn’t care about human life whatsoever,” Bryant added. “It was so wrong. She did not deserve that. She did not deserve that in any way, shape or form.”
Bryant says she knew the family.
“She was a sweet girl, a very sweet girl. She loved to walk. We took her and her mom to the store,” added Bryant. “Very nice family, very nice family.”
“What they did to her, it’s unimaginable,” she said.
24-Hour News 8 tried to contact Kleeman’s sister but have not yet heard back.
