INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — With the Verizon IndyCar series beginning this weekend, the flags went up at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Friday.

The flags signal the month of May being around the corner. The racing flags were installed at Gate 1.

Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard attended the event.

“I like everybody celebrating racing in Indianapolis, because this is the most famous place for racing in the world. I hear about it when I travel all the time,” Ballard said.

Sunday, IndyCar kicks off the season in St. Petersburg, Fla.
