Pit bull parade benefits Humane Society of Hamilton Co.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Humane Society of Hamilton County held its annual Parade-A-Bull event Saturday afternoon in Carmel.

The rain forced the event indoors, but it didn’t stop people from bringing their Pit Bulls for the parade.

Organizers focused the event on education, characteristics and the role the American Pit Bull Terrier plays in society.

The parade’s Grand Marshal was a pit bull named Nico. Nico is a completely deaf senior dog who was used for dog fighting and was left to be euthanized at a South Central Los Angeles shelter. Nico was rescued and transported to Indiana.

“We have all kinds of sad stories everyday at the shelter. We do tell those stories because it’s truth and its what we need to do to make sure people are aware of the needs of these animals,” Rebecca Stevens with the Humane Society of Hamilton County said.

In celebration of Pit Bull Education Month, the Humane Society’s pit bulls and pit mixes will have reduced adoption fees during the month of March. Click here for more information on that offer.
