Officers said alcohol was a factor in the crash and have arrested a man in connection to the incident.

According to Fort Wayne Police Department spokesman Jason Anthony, around midnight, police responded to Corner Pocket Pub on St. Joe Center Road after hearing reports of gunshots being fired. Witnesses told police two cars then sped out of the bar’s parking lot.

According to investigators, Jeremy D. Washington, 35, was speeding southbound and ran a red light at the intersection of Stellhorn Road and Hobson Road. He hit Nellum’s car driving eastbound on Stellhorn Road. Nellum was unconscious and unresponsive when officers arrived, according to Anthony. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Washington was able to get out of his car, but his passenger was trapped. Washington was taken to the hospital in fair condition and his passenger was listed in serious condition as of Saturday morning.
