BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – A pedestrian died early Monday morning when a semitrailer hit the man on Interstate 65 in Bartholomew County.
Police identified the man as 42-year-old Indianapolis man Paul McGuire. The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office said about an hour before the incident, an officer took McGuire from I-65 to a business in order to get a ride, after someone had called police about McGuire walking on the interstate.
The incident happened around 2:30 a.m. at the 69-mile marker of I-65 in the northbound lanes. A portion of Interstate 65 was closed while police investigated, but it has since reopened.
The driver of the semi was unable to avoid hitting McGuire because he was walking in the middle of the lane, according to the sheriff’s office. The semi driver wasn’t injured.
