INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Investigators with the Fatal Alcohol Crash Team (FACT) are investigating a crash that happened on the city’s northeast side Monday night. One person later died.

It happened in the 7400 block of Pendleton Pike shortly before 8:30 p.m. Detectives believe a pickup truck was heading west on Pendleton Pike and was turning to go south onto the ramp of Interstate 465. A small car was going eastbound on Pendleton Pike when it was hit by the pickup.

Witnesses told police just before the crash the pickup was seen traveling westbound on Pendleton Pike erratically and at a high rate of speed.

When officers arrived they found the driver of the small car suffering from extensive injuries. He was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital in critical condition where he later died. The driver of the pickup truck and his passenger were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Police say the driver of the pickup will have his blood tested for illegal intoxicants. Investigators suspect alcohol is a factor in the crash. Officers said late Monday night the diver of the pickup was expected to be arrested, but investigators had not determined what those preliminary charges would be.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case. No names have been released.

Around 9:30 p.m., the southbound on ramp to Interstate 465 was closed. Eastbound traffic on Pendleton Pike was stopped, but westbound traffic was still moving. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
