WEST LAFAYETTE (WISH) – Jose Kleberson scored in his Indy Eleven debut, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Chicago Fire’s strong first half in a 3-1 loss in an exhibition game at Purdue University.
Lovel Palmer, Jaun Luis Anangono, and Chris Rolfe scored for Major League Soccer’s Fire as it built a 3-0 lead before halftime.
Kleberson entered at the start of the second half and converted a penalty kick in the 73rd minute to provide the Indy Eleven with their lone tally of the match.
“Chicago was a great opponent, and we want to play quality competition like that because it shows us where our strengths and weaknesses are tactically and what we need to continue to work on as the season approaches,” said Indy Eleven Head Coach Juergen Sommer. “That’s why we played this game, to continue to do what we need to get sharp and prepare for Friday and then, more importantly the opener the following week.”
The Indy Eleven will play one more exhibition match on Friday at Carroll Stadium against Indiana University, before opening up the season on April 12th against the Carolina RailHawks.
