Hundreds of students spend the day at IMS

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Instead of spending the day in a classroom, hundreds of Hoosier 4th grade students from 16 schools are spending the day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The study trip is part of the 500 Festival and Indianapolis 500 Education Program.  The students learn about motorsports and its history in Indiana.

Kids get to see what it is like to time and score and they learn about safety, health and nutrition.

This year, more than 360 schools are enrolled in the program, and they from 90 percent of the counties across the state.

By the end of the program in May, more than 25 thousand students will take part in the program.

The Education Day was originally supposed to happen last week, but it was rained out.
