INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Nearly 200 volunteers took part in the 26th annual downtown White River Cleanup Saturday morning.

The focus of the cleanup was targeting the greenway section along the river. Organizers say volunteers picked up a lot of illegal dumping and debris.

“We’re finding things that are from construction projects, old electronics, things that are deliberately dumped,” said Kevin Hardie with Friends of White River.

Hardie told 24-Hour News 8 over the past 26 years, volunteers have picked up more than 1.5 million pounds of trash and debris from the cleanup. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
