FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Police say a stolen SUV was found in a retention pond in a Fort Wayne neighborhood Sunday morning.

A neighbor saw the top of the SUV in the pond, located behind several homes in the 7300 block of Lucerne Crossing, and called police around 7:30 a.m.

Police said the vehicle was stolen from a woman who lives in the Waterford subdivision, off of Wheelock Road, sometime overnight. The retention pond is in the same subdivision, near the woman’s home.

Dive teams searched the pond Sunday morning. Police said divers did not find anyone in the pond and no injuries were reported.

The SUV was removed from the pond around 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police are searching for more information on who may have stolen the vehicle.

The woman said she had just paid the car off a couple days ago.
