INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Fever bolstered their roster with a pair of first round picks in the WNBA Draft.
Indiana selected Florida State’s Natasha Howard with the fifth pick. She averaged 20.5 points per game in her senior season. Howard is the Seminoles’ all-time leader in both rebounds and double-doubles.
With the ninth pick, the Fever chose Notre Dame’s Natalie Achonwa. She helped lead the Irish to an undefeated regular season, before tearing her ACL in the NCAA Tournament. She will undergo surgery and miss the upcoming season.
“We see her as probably the best player in next year’s draft when she comes back healthy, so it was a situation where we didn’t think we could pass on her,” Fever head coach Lin Dunn said. “She has a high basketball IQ, skill set and great leadership. She probably dropped because of her knee, but she didn’t drop past us.”
Indiana picked Gonzaga guard Haiden Palmer in the third round to complete its draft.
