LOGANSPORT, Ind. (Pharos-Tribune) – A 78-year-old man was sentenced Tuesday after being convicted of killing a 76-year-old neighbor.
Loren Fry was sentenced to 55 years in prison and a $10,000 fine after being convicted of murder last month in the 2011 fatal shooting of 76-year-old Dave Schroder, 24-hour News 8 news partner The Pharos-Tribune reports.
Three members of Schroder’s extended family took the stand during the hearing and requested the maximum penalty for Fry.
“By taking away my grandpa, he has taken away my best friend,” Nicole Schroder, 17, said. “He is the one who taught me how to ride a bike, he was my heart and soul.”
Fry took the stand in Cass County Superior Court II stating his age meant he didn’t “have much longer to live.”
Fry does plan to appeal the sentence.
