Veterans’ remains sent to Marion National Cemetery

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) -The cremated remains of three veterans have been recovered from unclaimed storage vaults and will be placed at Marion National Cemetery Saturday, April 26.

The veterans have been identified as Army Private Hiram Maine (Civil War); Army Private Forest Smith (World War I); and Army Corporal Leo M. Valdez Jr. (World War II).

A special ceremony will take place at 10:00 a.m. at the Veterans Park in Zionsville.

The remains will then be placed at Marion National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. that afternoon.
