Indianapolis medics train officers on nasal overdose drug

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Medics and police in Indianapolis are working together to fight the rising number of heroin overdoses.

Indianapolis EMS crews are spending the week training IMPD officers in the southwest district on how to give a nasal drug that counters the effects of an overdose by narcotics, including heroin.

Officers will soon be armed with the drug because they are often the first on scene. Officials say officers can intervene if needed before medics are called. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
