INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A special job fair hosted by the VA for Veterans was held at the State Fairgrounds on Wednesday.
It was the eighth year for Operation Hire a Hoosier Vet. There were more than 200 employers on hand, and each employer present had to be hiring for jobs that are open now.
For veterans, it was a chance to meet with potential employers, but also to get help with resumes and information about continuing education.
“A lot of us are Vietnam-era veterans. Then you come on up through the ranks you’ve got Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom and we’re coming back and the job markets have changed,” veteran Joyce Richardson said. “Things aren’t like they used to be. Everything is technology, so we need to know about it.”
For the first time this year spouses were also invited. Last year there were 700 job seekers and about a 20 percent successful hire rate.
