Camping gets fancy at IMS ‘glamping’

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – This year, there is a new way to enjoy Indy 500 race weekend – it’s called glamping.

The word refers to glamorous camping and it involves a tent of a different kind.  A limited number of the luxury camping spots will be in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway infield and open to the public for the first time. Race-goers can rent a queen bed, twin bed or cot-filled tents.

IMS set up about eight tents Tuesday night for people to try it out.  The track will have 150 of tents in the in-field during the 500 this year.

Extra amenities include private restrooms, cell phone charging stations and a community grilling area. The tents cost about $600 to $900. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
