Victim identified in fatal fire on near northwest side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A fire early Sunday morning killed one person in a house near 28th Street and Rader Street.

Family members have identified the victim as 52-year-old Charles Lasley.

IFD arrived on the scene just after midnight and found that the fire had spread to the house next door as well. The occupant of the second house was not home at the time of the fire.

It took firefighters about an hour to get the fire under control.

No working smoke detectors were found in the home. Damage is estimated at $90,000.

Fire officials said Sunday afternoon that the cause of the fire was undetermined. Both homes were deemed structurally unsafe and demolished by the Department of Code Enforcement/Unsafe Buildings.

Officials say an autopsy is scheduled to be performed on Monday. The fatality remains a death investigation.
