Hoosier living in Boston raises money for bombing victims

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Among the runners in the Boston Marathon will be Indiana’s own Carolyn Riggs, and she’s doing it to raise money for the victims of last year’s bombings.

Riggs was born and raised in Indianapolis and moved to Boston two years ago. Now she’s feels last year’s bombings have made her a part of Boston.

“I think there’s a very intentional effort to take this as an opportunity to really overcome the negative of a year ago and show resiliency and have that feeling of strength and hope turn it into a positive as much as possible,” she said.

Riggs said she does feel safe heading into Monday’s race, which kicks off at 10 a.m.

“There are a lot of precautions in place to make sure that nothing bad happens, and I’m not going to let it get in the way of what will be an amazing day,” she said.

Before this, Riggs said the only organized race she’d run was a 5K, but she pushed through the training in hopes of raising $10,000 for the One Fund Boston.
