INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Police and SWAT responded to a hostage situation Sunday on the east side of Indianapolis.

Police say around 10 a.m. they responded to North Gray Street to calls of domestic violence.

When they arrived they found a man had barricaded himself inside the home. The man, identified as 35-year-old Ricky Rybolt, was believed to have guns inside.

Rybolt came out of the home after a short time with his hands up and surrendered. His brother was outside waiting.

“Good dude. I mean, he’s good with his kids. He isn’t a bad person. He isn’t violent or nothing. He’s a real good dude,” John Rybolt said.

Officers say a female victim had minor injuries.

Police say Rybolt, who was on probation for domestic violence out of Hendricks County, was arrested on battery and domestic battery charges. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
