South side apartment fire damages eight units

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – An apartment fire displaced 20 residents early Sunday morning on the city’s south side.

The fire occurred at the Keeneland Crest apartments just after 1am.

According to fire officials, witnesses say that the fire appeared to start in the mulch against the building.

The witnesses ran inside the building to rescue their dog and knock on doors to alert other residents to the fire.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, everyone had safely evacuated the building. No one was injured.

Damage is estimated at $200,000.

The Red Cross and apartment management are working to assist displaced residents.
