DPW driver discovers man shot in neighborhood

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A Department of Public Works employee driving through a northwest side neighborhood came across a man needing help early Monday.

The DPW driver called his dispatcher and reported he found a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound at the intersection of Waterloo Drive and Amick Way. That neighborhood is near West 62nd Street and North Michigan Road.

DPW dispatchers called 911 dispatchers who sent police and an ambulance to the scene. Police say the victim was awake and breathing and talking with police before he was taken by ambulance to St. Vincent Hospital.

Evidence technicians collected a pair of boots and a bathrobe at the scene.

IMPD Aggravated Assault detectives are investigating the shooting.
