SafeTown website attempts to make Indy safer

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A website that tracks crime is gaining popularity here in Indianapolis. gives residents information on crime, fires, and medical runs in neighborhoods located in Marion County.

It’s estimated that at least 100,000 people are using the site. The site also compiles statistics showing the most recent criminal trends in a neighborhood.

Users can create a home profile, that will give first responders information about the home and who lives inside, including details if the residents suffer from a mental illness, or if they are handicap. That information will only be shared and stored with first responder.

“We are asking people to get involved create a profile and report issues,” said Tim Baughman, Chief of Public Safety Communications.

Creators believe this site gives residents more control of their neighborhoods by knowing what’s going on.
