Children honored for reading

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — More than 4,000 students from all over Central Indiana were honored on Wednesday for taking part in WISH-TV’s I Love to Read challenge.

The students and their families went to a ceremony Wednesday morning at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. Indiana First Lady Karen Pence was there, and 24-Hour News 8 anchors Eric Halvorson and Lori Wilson emceed the program.

I Love to Read has been encouraging reading among children for 24 years. This year, 119 schools participated.

Students in first through third grades had a goal to read 1,200 minutes. Children in fourth through eighth grades had to read 2,500 minutes.
