INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Commencement for the University of Indianapolis is moving outside.

The university announced Wednesday it would combine undergraduate and graduate ceremonies while moving the events outside to Key Stadium. It’s the first change in location for the event since the 1960s.

For decades, graduates have received their diplomas at Nicoson Hall. But a growing number of graduates prompted the university to divide the undergraduate and graduate ceremonies in 2003. University leaders wanted to bring the ceremonies back together and have more room for family and community members.

“Commencement is a milestone that the entire UIndy community should celebrate together,” university President Robert Manuel said in a news release.

The commencement is planned for 11 a.m. May 3. Commencement speakers will be two students, Peter Brown and Will Schnabel, who were chosen by fellow students.
