WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – The name of the person killed in an apartment fire near Purdue University this week has been released.

Tippecanoe County Coroner Donna Avolt said the victim was 22-year-old Cody Day of Connersville, Indiana. An autopsy on Day was completed Saturday afternoon. Avolt says the preliminary cause of death is smoke inhalation. The death is being ruled accidental.

The fire broke out just after 5 a.m. Thursday at an apartment complex on South River Road. Residents in eight apartments were displaced.

West Lafayette Fire Chief Tim Heath says one person was taken to the hospital. He says the fire does not seem suspicous but it remains under investigation.
