FRANKLIN, Ind. (WISH) – The Indiana National Guard deployed 150 soldiers Sunday afternoon.

Friends and family packed the gym at Franklin College to support their soldiers.

Sergeant Caleb Poynter and his father were there. Sergeant Poyter is a part of the 1413th Engineer Company that’s headed to Afghanistan on a deconstruction mission

It’s a proud moment for his family, but it didn’t make the goodbyes easier.

Still, Poynter says he’s ready.

“We’ve put in a lot of hours,” Poynter said. “We’ve been out training hard and getting ready for our mission and stuff like that. So, you know, we’re doing a lot of good stuff and we’re looking forward to getting over there and getting the mission done and getting back home.”

The company is headed overseas in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Before they head to the Middle East, they’re making a stop at Fort Bliss, Texas for final training. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
