Man shot to death in car

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers are investigating a shooting death early Tuesday on the city’s northwest side.

Officers were sent to the 4600 block of Abington Way after several people reported hearing shots fired. As officers searched the area, they found a vehicle in the apartment complex parking lot with an unresponsive man sitting inside. The car was not running but its lights were still on.

EMS personnel pronounced the victim, 19-year-old Cortez Moton of Indianapolis, dead at the scene. Investigators said it appeared Moton had suffered gunshot wounds. The exact cause and manner of death will be determined by an autopsy later Tuesday.

Detectives say they believe this incident is isolated and not a random act. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
