Actor Patrick Dempsey

Last year, more than 1.6 million Americans were newly diagnosed with cancer. Millions more are already living with the disease.

Nearly everyone has been touched by cancer, including actor Patrick Dempsey. His mother lost her years-long battle with ovarian cancer in March.

Anyone confronted with a cancer diagnosis knows that one person alone cannot fight cancer – you need a strong support team. Breakaway from Cancer, a partnership between Amgen and four nonprofit organizations, aims to raise awareness of important resources available to people affected by cancer — from prevention to survivorship. The Breakaway from Cancer website also features a Cancer Resource Navigator, helping patients wade through the maze of online information that exists. The tool conducts a targeted search based on user-entered criteria selected from more than 100 hand-selected credible Websites.

Patrick has been involved with Breakaway from Cancer since 2007, and on April 30, he’ll be available for interviews to tell your audience more about Breakaway from Cancer. He’ll also discuss his personal experience with cancer, the importance of building a support team, and the connection to the upcoming Amgen Tour of California – the nation’s largest and most prestigious professional cycling race that takes place May 11 – 18, 2014.
