CLOVERDALE, Ind. (WISH) — A Putnam County man was badly hurt Wednesday night when he drove his SUV into a semi on State Road 42, Indiana State Police officials said.

Jack Rhoden, 69, was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital by medical helicopter with life-threatening injuries. IU Health officials said Thursday afternoon that Rhoden was in critical condition.

ISP officials said Rhoden was in a 2004 Ford SUV as a truck driver was backing his semi into his driveway on State Road 42. Rhoden hit the side of the semi and wasn’t wearing a seat belt. The other driver suffered a minor injury and was handled by medical personnel at the scene.

Police shut down State Road 42 for an hour and a half.
