Hoosier teacher honored in D.C. as National Teacher of the Year finalist

Teacher of the Year Award

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A Hoosier teacher was honored on Thursday as one of the finalists for the 2014 National Teacher of the Year Award.

24-Hour News 8 was there in October when Steve Perkins was named Indiana Teacher of the Year. He teaches at North Central High School.

Perkins is part of a group that has been in Washington, D.C. all week for the year-long celebration that recognizes all Teachers of the Year, culminating in the National Teacher of the Year Award from President Obama.

The President pointed out that teachers not only teach, but they counteract all the negatives their students encounter in a day.

In the end, Sean McComb from Patapsco High School in Baltimore, Maryland won the National Teacher of the Year.
