Police arrest Seymour man after attempted Columbus bank robbery

COLUMBUS, Ind. (The Republic) – A Seymour man has been arrested after police say he tried to rob a bank in Columbus on Thursday.

Columbus Police Chief Jason Maddix said that a man entered the PNC Bank branch at 25th Street and Central Avenue around 10:41 a.m. and presented a note, but did not have a weapon.

24-Hour News 8′s news partners at The Republic report the man received no money and left on foot.

Columbus police said around noon Thursday they arrested 29-year-old Kelly L. Hughes after receiving a call that a suspicious person matching the robbery suspect’s description was seen near 11th Street.

Police say no weapon was mentioned or displayed during the robbery attempt and no one was hurt.
