TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – A warehouse fire on Terre Haute’s south side is under investigation.

The fire started at an abandoned warehouse on 13th Street and Lockport Road Wednesday evening. Crews arrived on the scene just after 8. It took the fire department a couple hours to get the fire under control.

The owner of the warehouse said it was vacant at the time. Firefighters said the blaze was too hot to even go inside the building. They battled the fire in what they call a defensive position, shooting water into the structure from the outside.

It wasn’t until the fire was extinguished that investigators could get inside the building.

There is no word on the cause of the fire at this time.
