Prom for Patients: special night for special people

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – It’s a special night for a very special group of young people and their families. Friday night, Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health hosted it’s 5th annual Prom for Patients.  This year’s theme was “Passport to Adventure.”

About 350 people, including staff, got all dressed up for the party. Most of the gowns, tuxes, shoes and jewelry were donated. There were corsages for the ladies, plenty of picture taking, and dancing for everyone.

It’s a night to make lasting memories for families with children who have been diagnosed with cancer within the last year.  16-year-old Jasmine Thompson and her mother JoAnn attended, “I think this is an awesome event, and I thank God for the people that put this on, it gives our children a sense of hope.”

About 240 kids are diagnosed with cancer each year in Indiana. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
