Former Miss Basketball hosts ‘Stop the Violence Rally’

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – 1981 Miss Indiana Basketball Cheryl Cook hosted a “Stop the Violence Rally” Saturday afternoon at Belmont Park.

The former all star basketball player now lives in Bedford, Ohio, but came back to her Haughville neighborhood to talk with people about taking a stand and fighting CRIME in the community.

Cook is now an administrator for the State of Ohio Department of Youth Services. She said she’s had enough with all of the violence plaguing her childhood neighborhood.

“Me as well as the concerned citizens here in Haughville, we’re fed up with this and we’ll continue to fight this,” Cook said. “I’ll continue to come back to battle who’s ever bringing harm to our community.”

Cook says about 50 guns locks were given away during today’s stop the violence rally. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
