HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – Hancock County Sheriffs Deputies were busy early Sunday with two underage drinking parties that resulted in 22 arrests.
The first was at a residence on the east side of Greenfield around 12:30 a.m. Police received two anonymous calls reporting potential underage drinking.
When officers arrived, they found 18 individuals at the party. Eight of those were determined to be over 18 but under legal age and were charged with minor consumption of alcohol.
Ten others were released after police determined they were of legal age or were not drinking.
The officers were just finishing up booking the first group into the jail when they got a call of a second underage drinking party, this one in the McCordsville area. Around 1 a.m. deputies were called to a disturbance in the Stansberry Addition near Hancock County Roads 700 West and 600 North.
Officers arrived to find 25 party goers at this location. 14 of them were arrested on charges of being a minor consuming alcohol. 11 of those arrested were over 18 years of age, three were juveniles.
Major Brad Burkhart told WISH-TV 24 Hour News 8, since March the Hancock County Sheriffs Department has been conducting party patrols to address possible problems related to high school proms, drinking and driving, and end of the school year celebrations. Four officers were working that detail over the weekend. When they got the report of a second party, additional officers were paged to assist.
