ELKHART, Ind. (WISH) – It’s been almost four months since the Elkhart community was stunned when a shooter killed a shopper and employee at a Martin’s store.
The gunman was ultimately killed by the first two Elkhart officers on the scene. And today those who are credited with stopping the shooter are being honored.
The Mayor of Elkhart honored Officers Cody Skipper and Jason Tripp at a public ceremony that just wrapped up Sunday evening.
Also honored was the dispatcher who played a key role that night, Justin Yoder.
Plenty of Elkhart citizens turned out to support these men as they were recognized.
The mayor says the plaques are from the people of Elkhart, saying the three deserve to be recognized for their service.
