Mushroom hunters arrested on multiple charges

HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – Two men were arrested in Hamilton County for hunting mushrooms without permission.

Indiana Conservation Officers received trespassing complaints from a landowner in the 21600 block of Cyntheanne Road in Hamilton County.

Officers were watching the property Sunday morning when they spotted two men being dropped off at the road. The men then walked on to the property and started collecting mushrooms.

When officers approached the two suspects, the men fled on foot into a nearby wooded area.

After a brief pursuit, police caught the suspects, 41-year-old Robert Ferrand Jr. of Greenfield and 35-year-old Timothy Apple of Pendleton.

In addition to a bag of mushrooms, police also found marijuana, paraphernalia, and multiple firearms on the suspects. During the pursuit, officers recovered Ferrand’s firearm.

Ferrand had a permit for his weapon, while Apple did not have one for his.

Both men were arrested and taken to the Hamilton County Jail.

Conservation officers have cited the two men in the past for multiple violations, including hunting without consent.

Both men also admitted to having knowingly trespassed on the property in the past. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
