PERU, Ind. (Kokomo Tribune) – An 8-year-old girl was airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital Saturday after being hit by a car near Grissom Air Reserve Base.

24-Hour News 8′s news partners at the Kokomo Tribune reportMiracle Cripe was struck by Caleb Uptegraft, 23, Peru, at around 2:35 p.m. after she rode her bike between two parked cars out in front of his 2005 Dodge Neon on Shaw Avenue in Eagles Pointe housing addition.

Miami County Sheriff Tim Miller said Cripe suffered scrapes and abrasions, but was airlifted to Lutheran Hospital as a precaution for possible head injuries.

Uptegraft was not cited. Miller said speed was not a factor in the accident.

“It was one of those cases where the driver didn’t really have a chance to react to it,” Miller said.

A spokesperson for Lutheran Hospital said Monday afternoon the 8-year-old was no longer at the hospital. Cripe’s condition could not be confirmed by Monday evening.
