INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — It appears incumbent Marion County Sheriff John Layton took one step closer to re-election on Tuesday night.

With 60 percent of precincts reporting Tuesday night, Layton had 65 percent of the vote.

Mark Brown was running against Layton.

Emmitt Carney is the Republican running against Layton in the November election. Layton says he plans to run on experience.

“To know these streets, to know where every street corner is in Marion county, and what’s going on on those street corners, you had to have been here,” said Layton. “And I have been, and I think that experience is going to tell the people of Marion county who they need in the fall.”
