Man, 76, dies after catching on fire

HOPE, Ind. (The Republic) – Police said a 76-year-old man caught on fire and died Tuesday afternoon in rural northwest Hope.

24-Hour News 8′s news partners at The Republic report emergency units were sent to a home at 12301 East County Road 800N at 1:53 p.m. The home is about one mile west of State Road 9.

The victim was reportedly dead about 15 minutes after the initial call, according to Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Capt. John Martoccia.

Martoccia said as of Tuesday afternoon, investigators were still on scene trying to determine how the incident happened.
