Tom Crean to be honored at Dick Vitale Gala

CARY, North Carolina (WISH) – Indiana University men’s basketball coach Tom Crean will be honored at the ninth annual Dick Vitale Gala on May 16 in Sarasota, Florida.

Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit pediatric cancer research through The V Foundation.

“I am humbled to be involved in the 2014 Dick Vitale Gala. Nobody is more passionate in advancing a cause like Dick and Lorraine Vitale. Their commitment to the V Foundation is an inspiration and their efforts help so many who are battling day in and day out to beat an awful disease. Joani and I have been long-time supporters of the Vitale’s and the V Foundation and are honored to play a part in this year’s gala,” Crean said.

University of Alabama head football coach Nick Saban and University of Notre Dame head men’s basketball coach Mike Brey will also be honored at the gala.

The evening will feature a “Celebrity Meet & Greet Private Pre-Party,” live entertainment and a raffle drawing for a 2013 Mercedes-Benz CLA V-edition.

Last year, the Dick Vitale Gala raised more than $1.7 million for pediatric cancer research. The gala has raised more than $10 million total in its eight-year history. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
