MARTINSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) – A 300-ton electrical transformer took a long and slow journey on State Road 37 on Wednesday–causing delays along the way.

The transformer started its move from Martinsville to Bloomington Wednesday morning. Around 9:30 a.m., crews moved it along Morgan Street toward SR 37.

The equipment had a police escort the entire way, including the difficult turn onto southbound SR 37. Chopper 8 got a bird’s eye view of the big move.

Since the team only traveled a maximum of 10 mph, it was expected to take several hours to reach its destination. Crews hoped to have it there by 6 p.m. Wednesday, but said it could take longer.

Shortly before 5 p.m., the transformer was just north of Bloomington–very close to its destination. Drivers heading southbound on SR 37 could expect some delays. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
