WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – The bomb squad has blown up a suspicious package at Purdue University.
Purdue Police Department, West Lafayette Police Department and the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office all reported to the scene for a suspicious package placed against the southwest corner of Stewart Center, near the Purdue Memorial Union. The call came in just before 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Purdue police said the package was wrapped with a variety of things and had wiring coming out of it. The bomb squad was then called out to the scene. After X-rays and examination of the package, the bomb squad robot blew up the package shortly before noon.
Officers said the package contained a flashlight, reflective belt and other items.
No injuries were reported.
Portions of the Purdue Memorial Union and the Stewart Center were evacuated earlier. At 12:30 p.m., officers said both buildings resumed normal operations. However, the east doors of Stewart and the west doors of Union will remain closed.
