HOPE, Ind. (THE REPUBLIC) – The death of a 76-year-old man who caught on fire near Hope on Tuesday has been ruled as self-inflicted, according to 24-Hour News 8’s partners, The Republic.

Bartholomew County Coroner Larry Fisher said Friday that the man used a flammable liquid to set himself on fire and then suffered a massive heart attack from what has been determined to be severe coronary artery disease.

Fisher told The Republic there is no indication that the incident was anything other than self-inflicted.

Fisher pronounced the victim dead at a home on County Road 800N near Hope on Tuesday afternoon.
