‘Put on Purple’ event raises awareness about Lupus

Karen Pence Lupus Event

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – An event was held on the Statehouse lawn on Friday to raise awareness about Lupus.

Lupus is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system produces antibodies to cells within the body, leading to widespread inflammation and tissue damage.

Put on Purple Day was sponsored by the Indiana State Department of Health, the Lupus Foundation of America-Indiana Chapter, and GlaxoSmithKline.

First Lady Karen Pence read a proclamation from Governor Pence, declaring May as Lupus Awareness Month in Indiana.

The Lupus Tour Bus was also at the event for Hoosiers to go inside and get interactive information on Lupus.
